ThaliPOS is pre-launch and onboarding pilot restaurants. It has no published pricing, no customer base, no third-party reviews and no track record. The systems on this page are established products with years of production use, large support organisations and deep feature sets.

That asymmetry is real and you should weigh it. This page compares design and business model — the things that are genuinely comparable today — not maturity, where there is no contest.

What Lightspeed is

Where Lightspeed is ahead

Lightspeed ships inventory tracking down to ingredient level today. ThaliPOS has the menu and packaged-goods catalog, barcodes and weight-based pricing, but recipe depletion, auto-86, purchase orders and waste tracking are in development and not shipped. Lightspeed offers its own payments but does not require them, so you can keep or negotiate a processor relationship. Since processing is usually the largest cost in a POS relationship, that flexibility is worth real money. ThaliPOS runs on Stripe — payouts to your own connected account, but Stripe is the rail.

If you run a shop as well as a kitchen — a sweet shop with a substantial packaged-goods trade, say — Lightspeed has a dedicated retail product. ThaliPOS handles packaged goods and barcodes within a restaurant, but it is not a retail platform.

Where the architectures differ

Lightspeed describes its offline behaviour as continuing to work during connectivity problems by storing data locally on the device and uploading when the connection returns, while excluding master-data maintenance and cloud evaluations. That is a clear and honest description of a device-level cache on a cloud-primary system — which is the industry norm.

ThaliPOS puts the authoritative menu and order queue on an in-store hub, and every station — counter, kiosk, kitchen display — talks to that hub over your local network rather than to the cloud. The difference shows up in what keeps working: with a device cache, the device keeps taking orders; with a store hub, the whole store keeps operating, kitchen display included.

Where ThaliPOS is different by design

• Indian restaurant formats — composite thali plates as a real item type, half and full portions, per-diner spice, weigh-and-pay mithai, kitchen tickets in eight languages per station.
• Offline-first at store level, not device level.
• No hardware sales. Ordinary tablets, standard ESC/POS printers, plain scanners and serial scales, bought anywhere.
• Every ordering channel on one menu and one kitchen screen — counter, kiosk, QR, web storefront and delivery.

Choose Lightspeed if

• You need working ingredient-level inventory and food costing now.
• You want to keep or negotiate your own payment processor.
• You run retail alongside the restaurant.
• You want a mature product with an established support organisation.
• Floor-plan and table management are central to your service.

Choose ThaliPOS if

• Losing the connection during service is unacceptable, and a device-level cache is not enough.
• You run Indian formats that general menu models handle badly.
• Your kitchen crew reads several languages.
• You want ordinary hardware and no vendor lock on equipment.
• You can wait on inventory, or it is not why you are switching.
