[ ONLINE ORDERING ]

Online ordering you own, without the commission

Marketplaces are a customer acquisition channel worth having. They are an expensive way to serve a regular who already knows your name — and that is the order you want coming through your own storefront.

What is a restaurant online ordering system?

A restaurant online ordering system is a web storefront on your own domain where guests browse your menu, build an order and pay for pickup or delivery. Because it is your storefront rather than a marketplace listing, there is no per-order commission, and the guest relationship stays yours.

It sits alongside the marketplaces rather than replacing them. Most restaurants want both: the marketplaces for reach, and a direct channel for the guests who are already coming back.

What direct ordering actually saves

Marketplace commission is charged per order, on the whole order, forever — including from the customer who has ordered the same thing every Thursday for two years. On thin restaurant margins that is not a marketing cost, it is a share of the business.

The honest framing: a marketplace order you would not otherwise have had is worth its commission. A repeat order from a regular, taken on a channel you own, is worth considerably more. The goal is to move the second group, not to leave the platforms.

ThaliPOS gives you the direct channel and the marketplace channels on one system, so you can actually see which is which. See the whole platform →

How the ThaliPOS storefront works

Pickup, tables and the order board

For pickup, guests get a friendly order number, and a wall-mounted order status board shows what is cooking and what is ready — so the counter stops answering "is it done yet?" and the guest stops hovering.

For in-store ordering from a table, printed QR codes route the guest to the right menu for that part of the restaurant. How QR ordering works →

Where marketplaces fit

DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub orders arrive on the same kitchen display as everything else, using your menu with per-channel pricing — so you can price in the commission rather than absorbing it — and a pause switch per channel for when the kitchen is buried. If the store goes offline, those channels pause automatically instead of accepting orders nobody can see.

[ FAQ ]

Questions, answered straight

Do you charge commission on my direct online orders?

No. Orders through your own web storefront and your printed QR codes carry no marketplace commission. Card processing fees still apply, as they do on any card payment.

Do guests need to create an account to order?

No. Guests can browse the menu and build a cart anonymously; they identify themselves at checkout, and the cart they already built carries over.

Can I run my own storefront and the delivery marketplaces at the same time?

Yes, and most restaurants should. Both land on the same kitchen display with the channel marked, and marketplaces can carry their own per-channel pricing.

Does online ordering keep working if my store loses internet?

Orders placed from outside the restaurant travel over the internet by definition, so new online orders cannot arrive during an outage. Marketplace channels auto-pause, and your counter, kiosk and kitchen display keep running on the in-store hub.
